Cash, Rosanne - the essential rosanne cash [2011]
Zeitlich begrenzter, sehr günstiger Einführungspreis!
2 CD-Set! Essentiell!

Hier noch die Produktbechreibung im englischen Original:

The idiosyncratic and innovative music of Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny Cash, made her one of the pre-eminent singer/songwriters of her day. Although Rosanne Cash is often classified as a country artist, her music draws on many genres, including folk, pop, rock and blues. In the 1980s, she had a string of chart-topping singles, which crossed musical genres and landed on both C&W and Top 100 charts, the most commercially successful being her 1981 breakthrough hit "Seven Year Ache", which topped the U.S. country singles charts and reached the Top 30 on the U.S. pop singles charts. Included on The Essential Rosanne Cash are 36 tracks over 2 discs, including 10 #1 US Country singles. There is a story here on The Essential Rosanne Cash that runs from 1978's "Can I Still Believe In You" to 2009's "Sweet Memories." Within the joints and joists of these songs Cash married, had children, married again, had children again, traveled, lived in five cities on two continents, lost loved ones, got sick and got well again. Many of the selections on this compilation are signposts of sorts for the landmarks of her life, and the personal and musical are essentially interwoven.

Garcia Band, Jerry - garcia live vol. 13: 09/16/1989, poplar creek music theatre [2020]
2 CD-Set! Die hervorragende Setlist bestand aus damit sehr raren Versionen vieler Garcia/Hunter-Standards, wie "Cats under the stars" oder "They love each other", aber auch höchst interessanten Covers wie beispielsweise Dylan's "I shall be released", The Beatles' "Dear Prudence", The Band's "The night they drove old dixie down" und vor allem einer raren, jammigen 10 Minuten-Fassung des Rolling Stones-Klassikers "Let's spend the night together".

It’s with great pleasure we share news of the next installment in the GarciaLive series — GarciaLive Volume 13: September 16th, 1989 Poplar Creek Music Theatre. For some, the number thirteen is filled with superstition, but we can comfortably say GarciaLive Volume 13 will only brighten your doorstep upon release on Friday, April 24th. The new release, like the previously issued Pure Jerry: Merriweather Post Pavilion, September 1 & 2, 1989 and Fall 1989: The Long Island Sound, once again puts a spotlight on the Jerry Garcia Band’s legendary September ’89 run, but with one BIG addition — the Big Man, Clarence Clemons.
Clemons, the tenor saxophone giant from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, joined the tour at the Meadowlands in northern New Jersey after first linking up with Garcia at the Grateful Dead’s New Year’s Eve 1988 performance in Oakland. Though he wasn’t well versed in the JGB’s repertoire at the start, Clarence’s deep knowledge of R&B and rock-n-roll made him a decidedly quick study — and by the time they hit Poplar Creek for the tour closer, they were really rolling! Garcia, already enjoying one of his best latter-day years following his recovery from a near-death experience, was in particularly fine form. His playing dexterous and down-right otherworldly at times. And as Blair Jackson writes in the liner notes, “Clarence is right there with him, bleating and honking and purring and sounding like all his influences—from Maceo Parker and Lee Allen to King Curtis and Junior Walker—rolled into one powerful package that was unmistakably Clarence Clemons. He’s definitely not laying back, and his assertiveness clearly pushes Garcia to play harder and louder and funkier at every turn.” While the setlist is fairly standard for the era, Clemons helps the band find new heights on old staples like The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” and a pair of Garcia/Hunter originals, “Cats Under The Stars” and “They Love Each Other.” One relative rarity of note is a positively blistering take on The Rolling Stones’ romp “Let’s Spend The Night Together”, dusted off earlier in the year after having been absent since ’76, which closes set one spectacularly. Top to bottom, this one is filled with magic — and we’re delighted to share it with you.

Garcia Band, Jerry - garcia live vol. 16: madison square garden, nov. 15th 1991 [2021]
3 CD-Set!

GarciaLive Volume 16 finds the world's most recorded musician in the world's most famous arena at the midway point in one of his longest and most celebrated solo tours. While Garcia was no stranger to Madison Square Garden, November 15th marked the Jerry Garcia Band’s debut in the vaunted venue. Though just two months removed from the Grateful Dead's sold-out 9-night residency at the Garden, the crowd’s eruption as the houselights dimmed revealed the immense excitement for Garcia’s return. The buoyant set-opening “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” signaled the feeling was indeed mutual. Love remained a central theme throughout the evening with stunning versions of Smokey Robinson’s “The Way You Do The Things You Do," Van Morrison’s “He Ain’t Give You None” and “Bright Side of the Road," and Dylan’s “Simple Twist of Fate," among others. A near-automatic highlight of any latter era Jerry Garcia Band set, this performance of The Manhattan’s “Shining Star” is so poignant it became the centerpiece for the 2001 compilation of the same name. The extended takes on “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox” and “Don’t Let Go” which followed offered the band plenty of room to stretch out with the latter yielding the deepest improvisations of the evening. Not one to treat encores as de rigueur, Garcia finds the perfect sentiment to close the night with the timeless “(What A) Wonderful World” sending everyone home walking on air.

Garcia Band, Jerry - garcia live vol. 2: august 5th 1990, greek theatre [2013]
2 CD-Set! Die Setlist ist voll mit spannenden Coverversionen, wie etwa Bob Dylan's "Tangled up in blue", Los Lobos' "Evangeline", Bob Marley's "Stop that train", Van Morrison's "And it stoned me", Little Milton's "That's what love will make you do", "Tears of rage" von The Band, und viele mehr. Großartig!

Aus der Original-Produktbeschreibung:
GarciaLive Volume Two captures the classic latter-era lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band in the very familiar surroundings of the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. Recorded during a fruitful period for the band, which has resulted in two previous releases (Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet It Is), this show features a guest appearance by acclaimed banjo player Bela Fleck to kick off the second set with a fiery rendition of "Midnight Moonlight" and an otherworldly adventure on the Jimmy Cliff classic, "The Harder They Come."
The Jerry Garcia Band made use of their home turf in 1990, performing throughout the Bay Area an astounding 19 times in that year, including multiple runs at their adopted home of the Warfield Theatre. Jerry and the band, including longtime cohort John Kahn on bass, Melvin Seals on organ and David Kemper on drums, as well as “The Girls,” Jaclyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones on backing vocals, stretched out in the summer sun on this early August afternoon show. Highlights, beside the obvious fireworks created on stage with Fleck, include a lilting “Stop That Train” and a bouncy “My Sisters and Brothers.” But on this day, Garcia clearly had the Bard on his mind, lending his deft touch and heart wrenching vocals to Dylan chestnuts “Forever Young” and “Tears of Rage” before sending the crowd home with a bounce in their step after a mesmerizing “Tangled Up in Blue” show closer. Once again, this performance cements Dylan’s own sentiments that nobody had a touch with his songs quite like Garcia.

Horsehead - sympathetic vibrations [2012]
Grandios! Jon Brown drückt es so aus: "We don’t sound like anyone else, we sound like Horsehead". Wundervoll! Hammer! New Riders Of The Purple Sage.

Go ahead – reel off your favorite alt-country/Americana/whatever-you-want-to-call-it albums of all time … the seminal statements of the genre. What would be on the list? Son Volt’s Trace ? Whiskeytown’s Faithless Street ? Hollywood Town Hall by The Jayhawks? Wilco’s A.M. ? Whatever the albums are, what about them grabs ahold of you? Smart lyrics and a stone-real delivery? A haybale punk vibe? Garage pop crossed with Exile On Main Street -style cellar funk? Twanging crunch? Crunchy twang?

Here – have some of all of the above. World, meet Horsehead. The album is Sympathetic Vibrations – their fourth – and I humbly offer it up as being real and good and raggedy and right.
Sympathetic Vibrations delivers – name your poison, bucko. The album enters softly with “Moving Target” – just Horsehead principals Jon Brown and Kevin W. Inge (the self-proclaimed “Dimmer Twins”). Brown leads the way on vocals with acoustic guitar in hand, while Inge infuses the tune with wisps of keys and lovely pedal steel. By the way, it’s worth noting that the frigging guy – Inge – basically taught himself pedal for this album. If you’re not familiar with the beast’s workings – foot pedals, knee levers, ten strings and all – then Inge’s accomplishment might be lost on you. Trust me – there are folks who’ve been pickers all their lives who wouldn’t dare get near a pedal steel in a recording studio. Inge may be a rookie steeler, but he handles it like a seasoned pro, adding washes of sparkle amongst the grit on “Get Up” and putting the thing on full stun for “Spinning Your Wheels” with a slightly raspy-voiced tone that is absolutely beautiful.

Brown is the band’s lead voice and tunesmith. The album’s 13 cuts show he knows how to convey his songs’ souls (and the characters who inhabit them) in short order – from the heartbroke, dirt-streaked weariness of “God Damned The Rain To Fall” (Travis Rinehart’s guest banjo completes the picture) to the ominous won’t-take-no-for-an-answer stalk of “Sweet On You”. On “Emptiest Arms In The World” Brown delivers the goods with flannel-shirted soul and the confidence of a man who could rebuild his own carburetor. And the good-byes of “Candy” leave you wishing him well and hoping like hell that he and that gal end up together in a good place.

Bassist Randy Mendicino ended up swapping rhythm partners midway through the Sympathetic Vibrations session when longtime drummer Andre LaBelle left the band and Gregg Brooks settled in behind the kit. It’s a tribute to all three that the transition was a seamless one and only the liner notes tell the tale – there are no obvious splits between the Mendicino/LaBelle and Mendicino/Brooks tunes. Dig the nuts-on lurch of “Darkened Streets” (think vintage Molina/Talbot slam – and listen for the “Norwegian Wood” tease in the guitar break); the driving rhythm of “Running For The Door” tears along like a cousin to Tommy Tutone’s “867-5309” before Brooks and Mendicino shift gears and go into full surf mode; “Wasting Time” is big and majestic – beat-down, but not without pride just the same.

Multi-instrumentalist Inge (we’ve already discussed his grossly-amazing pedal steel contributions) is all over this thing: doubling up with Brown on guitar here … adding some organ here … a bit of piano here … a master of divining what a particular tune needs – no more and no less. Horsehead buddy (and Drive-By Trucker) Jay Gonzales sits in on piano for a couple of tunes, the most notable being the walloping rocker “Big Sun”.

“Big Sun” alone could sell you on Horsehead: wicked grab-you-by-both-ears opening guitar riffs; big bass swoops and straight-ahead drumming; enough crash-and-thrash to get your attention before settling into the palm-muted chug of the verses. Brown tells his tale perfectly about the folder at a laundromat who “smelled of soap and cigarettes.” It’s obvious the story can go only go one way – and the fact that the song evolves into a total guitar workout is the perfect way to tell the tale. The song fades at about the 5-minute mark, but comes roaring back with an eff-you-we’re-not-done attitude: Mendicino and Brown join forces while Brooks rolls and tumbles in glorious drum ecstasy; and Inge simply plays the piss out of his six-string. Of all the titles Horsehead wears well, “Big Sun” proves that above all, they are one hell of a rock and roll band.

And beyond that, Sympathetic Vibrations is one hell of an album.

(Brian Robbins)

By the time Lady Antebellum swept the 2011 Grammy Awards they had sold millions of records, had No. 1 hits, and earned countless awards. Other than awards shows and television appearances, the world had not yet seen the trio's music come to life on stage. Until then they had opened for the industry's biggest superstars, and now it was time to step out on their own. Not only did they own the night, they owned over 100 of them across 11 countries in front of more than 1 million fans.
The concept for the stage was simply sketched out on a paper plate while out on tour the summer of 2011, but evolved into a massive musical playground to showcase Lady A's exuberant talent. They dreamed big, but couldn't fathom what was about to happen to them.
Before taking the show overseas, Lady Antebellum celebrated the final weekend of the North American leg by documenting the show from Little Rock, AR and telling their humble perspective of becoming international touring superstars.
The 90-minute performance includes No. 1 hits I Run To You , We Owned The Night, American Honey, Just A Kiss, Our Kind of Love and of course, the greatest selling country single of all time, Need You Now. Among the performances are documentary excerpts depicting their lives as songwriters, musicians, and most importantly...close friends.

Ledger, Logan - same [2020]

For those who lament that no one has appeared after iconic country/rockabilly crooners like Elvis, Roy Orbison and George Jones to replace that distinctive American sound, Logan Ledger would like to spend a few minutes with you.
To be fair, others such as Robert Gordon and Chris Isaak have made inroads that referenced those legends’ distinguishing styles with similar, strongly-influenced approaches. But Ledger’s inexplicably delayed album — he has been playing selections from it for almost two years — captures the melancholy “only the lonely” vibe that’s not just difficult to replicate vocally, but musically seems lost to the land of oldies radio.
Logan’s smooth, near-operatic voice initially draws you into his shimmering noir world of desolate souls wandering deserted, rain-drenched backstreets before dawn. But songs such as “Invisible Blue” with its reverbed baritone guitar and color-saturated lyric of “There’s a blue you can’t see/but boy you can feel,” and the tearful, pedal steel sobbing “Tell Me a Lie,” sung by a tearful, heartbroken protagonist, show that Logan writes ‘em as well as he sings ‘em. Kudos to roots-producing maestro T Bone Burnett who realizes Ledger’s idiosyncratic vision with clean, unfussy production and backing from longtime associates such as guitarist Marc Ribot and drummer Jay Bellerose.
Ledger also gets assistance from veteran songsmiths John Paul White (“Tell Me a Lie”), Steve Earle (“The Lights of San Francisco”) and a few others. But solo-penned tracks like the bittersweet closing “Imagining Raindrops” that could have been a George Jones hit, and the after-hours, Sinatra circa In the Wee Small Hours styled “Nobody Knows” are some of his most delicate, poignant and sweetly nostalgic selections.

Little Big Town - nightfall [2020]
"'Nightfall' is Little Big Town's album of 'peaceful' social commentary in a divisive world". "This is no 'rah-rah beer festival'", betonte die Band dazu in verschiedenen Interviews (nachzulesen in u. a. Original Album-Review des New Yorker Wall Street Journal). "Nigtfall" ist eine absolute Glanzleistung von Little Big Town!

Original Album-Review des New Yorker Wall Street Journal:

Ambitious country-music performers face some daunting choices these days. They can lean toward furthering the genre’s tradition of capturing under-explored scenes and sentiments of contemporary adult life, and thus risk appealing to hard-core connoisseurs only. Or they can engage with popular tropes that, however often repeated, dominate big-time country radio, winning acceptance by the widest audience in the process. The fairly stark dichotomy can be characterized as more lettered, Americana-adjacent country versus country pop; aiming at more mature versus younger audiences; or even simply as album-centered versus hot-single-oriented production.
But there is a third, especially challenging route—one pursued by such repeatedly honored practitioners as Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Dierks Bentley : working consciously and deftly to have it both ways. And among vocal groups over the past decade, none has proved more adept at walking this road than the mixed-gender, always vocally harmonious quartet Little Big Town—founders Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, with Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet. Winners of the Country Duo/Group Performance Grammy for “Pontoon” (2012), “Girl Crush” (2014) and “Better Man” (2016), they were also the Country Music Awards’ Vocal Group of the Year for six years running, 2012-2017. Their latest album, “Nightfall” (Capitol Records Nashville), set for release Jan. 17, is yet another in their succession of album gems, and a prime example of an artfully constructed offering likely to gain popularity as well as critical praise.
The most-discussed track before the album’s release has been “The Daughters,” a melodic ballad written by Ms. Fairchild along with respected Nashville songwriters Sean McConnell and Ashley Ray. Introduced by the group on the televised ACM Awards back in April, it outlines the circumscribing demands and expectations young girls are so often subjected to and offers them parental hope, but a chorus line that tossed in “I’m just looking for a God for the daughters” effectively ruled it out as a single promoted to wary and guarded pop-country radio. (The same edgy cheekiness had marked the easily misunderstood “Girl Crush,” and brought more attention to it.) “The Daughters” was nominated for this year’s Country Duo/Group Performance Grammy before the album was even out.
The first track that was vigorously promoted as a single is a song about drinking, safer country territory, and is in a traditional honky-tonk mode—not just in sound and rhythm but in its clever turn on expectations. “Over Drinking” is not about drinking too much, but about being finished with crying in a beer: “I’m drunk ’cause I’m happy, not drunk ’cause you’re gone; I’m over drinking over you.” Classic hard country. But for those looking for a pop alternative, the very next album track is “Wine, Beer, Whiskey,” which, after a teasing after-hours jazz-like opening, turns to a thumping salute to friends named Jack, Jose, Brandy, Sherry and Captain. No explanations required—and audience balance achieved.
The latest single, “Sugar Coat,” is a moody, dark ballad with Ms. Fairchild singing lead, in the persona of the long-suffering wife of a husband with wandering ways. She doesn’t drink, doesn’t take pills, just smiles “with a lump in my throat.” Many will find the song instantly relatable; it was written by country’s expert on such situations, Lori McKenna, along with Josh Kerr and Jordyn Shellhart. One of the advantages of a track record like Little Big Town’s is the happy availability of new songs that work for them from top writers—a number in this case co-written along with the band, and with Ms. Fairchild in particular. The album’s all-star songwriting contributors include Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuck, Grammy-winning producers and collaborating writers for Kacey Musgraves’s “Golden Hour” album last year; and the so-called Love Junkies (Ms. McKenna, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose ) who’d been responsible for “Girl Crush.”
Overall, the instrumentation is as varied as the album’s many moods demand, and the always strong Little Big Town vocals rise to the varied occasions. But as the songs add up on “Nightfall,” you notice that there’s a theme at work, reflected in the album title—moods when the lights go down; dreams; thoughts while lying in bed alone or with company, old or new. It’s often sophisticated, yet nonetheless country-ready, after-dark material.
“Nightfall,” the group has been telling interviewers, is no “rah-rah beer festival.” Indeed, the album’s release show is set for New York’s Carnegie Hall on Jan. 16, and the Apollo Theater the following two nights. To use a phrase only occasionally appreciated or particularly appropriate in country, this is a class album from one classy group. (Barry Mazor / The Wall Street Journal)

2 CD-Set!

Mead, Chuck - close to home [2019]
I'm not the man for the job".

There are precious few artists keeping the sound of classic honky tonk alive in today’s fractured marketplace. After all, the contemporary country crowd that buys “product” isn’t particularly interested in the old school music of Johnny Horton that Chuck Mead loves. But as the co-founder of BR5-49 with whom he released seven albums, and as a solo artist with three previous deep C&W roots discs to his name, you can depend on Mead to keep the honky-tonking fires alive and burning.
Along comes producer/engineer Matt Ross-Spang. In conjunction with Mead, they decide to change the blueprint for solo release number four (and his first in five years). While pure honky-tonk is still very much on display in tracks such as the “Close to Home” title tune and “Tap Into Your Misery,” Spang moves Mead to record in Sam Phillips’ Memphis studio. This adds a layer of dusky swamp, blues and rockabilly to the country proceedings, expanding Mead’s palette and sound.
On “Shake,” he borrows a moody lick from Creedence Clearwater Revival. For “The Man Who Shook the World” he nails a NRBQ-styled rocker, and in “My Baby’s Holding It Down,” Mead taps into a sharp balance between pop and Americana in a slow-burn rocker with a bit of an old Eagles vibe. He’s still got his sense of humor though as you can tell just by the title of the Chuck Berry “Rock and Roll Music” rip “Daddy Worked the Pole.” It’s the story of the singer’s dad who worked on a telephone pole so his mom didn’t need to work the pole in the exotic club where they met … until they switched supporting each other.
Even further afield is the jittery reggae of “I’m Not the Man for the Job,” (Mead describes it as “rocksteady from San Antonio”) which adds pedal steel to its Jamaican rhythm for a unique juxtaposition which seems odd on paper but works well in execution. He goes countrypolitan too on the sweet Glen Campbell-influenced “There’s Love Where I Come From,” as close to a commercial single as Mead has ever come. And the opening “Big Bear” rocks hard with twang guitar reverb pushed to 10. Even the pure country of “Billy Doesn’t Know He’s Bad” has a weird lyrical twist that shows sympathy for an outlaw with mental problems.
Diverse? You bet, but Mead holds it together with his twangy, cool voice and a sense of roots that conveys he’s a country guy at heart looking to expand his boundaries … but not too far. The disc is like the best jukebox you ever heard in a sleazy, punky country bar, perhaps like the broken down Seeburg pictured on the back sleeve. Plunk down your quarter and wherever the needle falls, you’ll end up on the dance floor. (Hal Horowitz / Amarican Songwriter)

Old Dominion - same [2019]

Old Dominion continues to channel clever lyrics, modern production and positivity into their new self-titled album. Across 12 tracks, the CMA Award winning band of Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen, Geoff Sprung and Whit Sellers maintains their inspiring disposition while exploring deeper emotions.
The group puts an uplifting foot forward with the encouraging chart-topper “Make it Sweet” that opens their third studio project, leading into “Smooth Sailing,” a song that finds a silver lining in the midst of life’s obstacles as they optimistically sing, “come hell or high water/the sun’s gonna shine/might not be tomorrow/but I know I’m gonna find smooth sailing.” They share a similar sense of reflection on “One Man Band,” expressing a desire to no longer walk through life alone, longing to find someone to share the precious memories with.
Old Dominion begins to take on a more melancholy tone with “My Heart is a Bar,” the narrator coming to the revelation that he often feels taken advantage of in relationships, comparing his heart to a lonely bar where dwellers go to wash their woes away. “Well I’ve come to the conclusion/that true love is an illusion/you’re being used/or you’re using someone else,” Ramsey sings honestly. The five-member troupe continues to weave sorrow into creative lyricism on “Hear You Now,” injecting vulnerability into the main character who realizes that a past love’s prediction that he’ll end up alone should he not change his ways has come to fruition. They convey this sense of remorse through lyrics that portray the sound of pouring rain filling the silence, while the echo of “goodbye” rattles in his mind like a midnight train, finally hearing her words pierce “clear and loud” through the empty loneliness.
They follow this by stepping outside of their sonic realm with “I’ll Roll” that finds them whisking off on a journey around the world with a gypsy woman over a swampy, yet mellow melody. They connect to a similar soul on one of the album’s best numbers, “Paint the Grass Green.” Letting imaginative lyrics soar, the singers use vivid imagery to paint a picture of a woman who longs to venture beyond her comfort zone, the lyrics calling to mind the iconic scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy steps into a world of color for the first time after living in black and white. “If you think the world looks better on that side of the fence/I’ll paint the grass green/like a Technicolor dream/if our love is fading babe/I’ll brighten up the sea/I’ll paint the grass green,” Ramsey sings over a shimmering pop-style melody.
The album ends on a truly humble note with “Some People Do.” The quintet lets poignancy take center stage with a lead character who takes responsibility for the pain he’s caused in the past, conveying a sincere desire to rectify his mistakes. Between Ramsey’s plaintive delivery and his bandmates’ gentle harmonies, it’s one of their most personal songs yet, particularly through such introspection as “some people quit drinking too much/and some people quit lying/some people decide to grow up/but it’s never good timing/most wouldn’t forgive/what I put you through/but I’m here tonight/hoping some people do,” the haunting marriage of piano and cello driving home the emotion of the words, making for an intimate and moving way to close the album.
Throughout the self-titled project, Old Dominion show that they’re diving beneath the surface to a more reflective place, relying as much on thought-provoking subjects matters as clever lyrics to tell their story – a combination that draws fans to their distinct sound and bright spirit.

Roberts, Julie - alive [2011]
"This is the real Julie Roberts"!

“Mama Said Don’t”
I always put at least one song on my albums for my Mama. This song is a fun one I wrote with Rachel Proctor & Victoria Banks. It has that rootsy, bluesy, down-home feel to it that I love to perform live! I think everyone can relate to these lyrics!!

“Stronger”
I wrote this one with Don Schlitz just a few months before my album was finished. This song is the centerpiece for my entire record. It describes the road I have been on and the emotions I have felt during the 5 years since my last album was released. This is definitely a reflection into my life and into my faith of knowing that no matter how tough the road might appear to be, God never leaves my side and He makes me “Stronger”.

“Alive”
I heard this song about a year ago and I immediately thought “this sounds like part two to ‘Break Down Here’”. I knew I wanted to record it because I could see the story unfolding in my head of this visual lyric. I also knew I loved the title, “Alive”. I want my fans to know that I am still here! I am ‘alive’ and still making music. I’ve had a few stumbling blocks and a few years have gone by, but I’m back!

“You Got Me”
I heard and loved this song years ago and just held on to it like I do so many songs. I love that you really don’t have to think about these lyrics. It’s just a fun, happy, love song!!

“Yesterday’s Blue”
When I got together with Chris Roberts & Greg Biek to write this song, I told them I wanted to write a classic sounding song with attitude. I love the very last verse the most in this song because I almost sing what I’m sure so many people think sometimes when the one that they love leaves them. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you hear it!

“Aint No Thing”
This is another one of those songs I’ve held onto since the last record. I just LOVE the track and the lyrics in this one. I love to sing about real life stuff and I sing things I am not always so brave to say. I wish I could’ve told some of he guys that have left me “you know what, it aint no thang.” But, since I can’t say it, I’ll sing it!! ☺

“One For the Road”
Here’s another one that I probably wouldn’t say to someone in real life but have definitely lived. I love how blunt & straight-forward the lyric is. I like looking for and recording songs that I think would scare some people to sing…I AINT SKEERD, especially if it’s REAL to me!

“Let’s Fight”
I wrote this one with Jason Collum & Caitlin Smith. This one was the most fun to record because it was SO simple and just cool to me. I would actually love to make a record where all the tracks sound very similar to this one. I was inspired to write this one from a scene in one of my favorite movies, “Sweet Dreams” (the story of Patsy Cline).

“Whiskey and You”
I can see the video for this one in my head. I have loved this song for a really long time. I have known some people similar to the character singing in this song and I’ve seen how alcoholism can tear up a family/relationship. This song and lyric are so real to me. It’s such a sad song and the steel guitar makes it that much more sad. The sadder, the better for me!!

“Somebody Does”
I wrote this one long before the Nashville Flood in May 2010, but pulled it back out after we lost our home and I saw all of the people coming from everywhere to help my family. It took on an entirely different meaning for me when I listened to it then. I dedicate this one to everyone that reached out to help rebuild Nashville.

“Carolina From My Soul”
Marcus Hummon wrote and produced this track for my album. I’m from Lancaster, SC & this is a song about the feeling of comfort I get when I think about my life back there. When I sing this song, I see myself as I young girl in SC dreaming of singing country music. I always know that no matter where my music takes me in this world, Carolina will always be my home and in my soul.

“NASCAR Party”
I grew up watching NASCAR racing on television and going to dirt-track races so this is my tribute to the sport. When I wrote this song, I pictured myself and other NASCAR fans at the track and tried to put into words (in 2.5 minutes), how much fun it is to be there at the races. I had a blast writing, recording, and filming the video for it!

Sugarland - love on the inside ~ deluxe fan edition [2008]
Deluxe Fan-Edition mit 5 Bonustracks! Erfrischend , lebendig, wunderbar! Ohne Ausnahme!

Ganz interessant: Ein offizieller Sugaland "Song by Song"-Überblick (im Original):

"All I Want To Do"
The duo’s intent here was to have a lot of swing to the lead single of this album. To funk it up a bit, and keep it very hooky. Musically, this number’s somewhere between Bonnie Raitt and Jack Johnson, with some Marvin Gaye and Van Halen thrown in. "I love the flirty sound," says Jennifer Nettles. "We just always want to bring different energies, and we got to play on the lighter side this time." If you listen close, the easy percussion from Matt Chamberlain gives the song its sexy heartbeat.

"It Happens"
Sometimes, you just gotta let go. That’s what this gritty little tune’s all about, says the duo. "We always say we should take the music seriously, but not ourselves," Nettles says. When the guitar comes in at the top, you know this is going to be a little more 80s pop than down-home country. Think "Walking on Sunshine". Because this tune wraps it all up with some very advisable lyrics: "Let go, laughing". And Nettles thinks the ironies, like getting in a fender bender with your ex and his new girl, shows listeners what a grand sense of humor the universe has. It’s a very uptempo way to look at a world that’s out of your control.

"We Run"
New love. Young love. Green love. There’s an excitement to that experience that Sugarland has captured in this intoxicating bluegrassy rocker. Nettles admits this grew from a seed of an idea that Bush had, since he grew up playing mountain music in Tennessee. And this song lends itself to that Appalachian sound, that driving four-on-the-floor beat. You can’t really describe that feeling, so the duo chose to show it rather than tell it. The imagery--of pockets of dirt and reckless weather on the breath--convey how beautiful, messy and powerful love can be.

"Joey"
Teenage love doesn’t always have a happy ending. Especially when a tear-jerker like Bill Anderson has pen in hand. He helped Nettles and Bush craft this modern take on the traditional teen tragedy, and yet much more alternative influences went into the vocals. "We ended up with a haunting wail in the chorus and this R.E.M. background vocal," says Bush of the melancholy music. "It’s simple and dark." The rich texture of this song is built around all those "what ifs" that run through your mind as you explore regret. "Nothing mitigates loss," says Nettles "But everyone has regrets, so we can all relate."

"Love"
Nettles’ powerhouse pipes take center stage in this ballad. And that strength comes though in the form of questions, about how you can possibly define love. Is it the face of a child? Kindness in the eyes of a stranger? In a hotel room in Washington D.C., when Sugarland was chasing down the theme of the whole album, the topic of love came up. "No way could you ever narrow it down," Nettles says of their writing time with Tim Owens ("Settlin’"). There’s love lost, love found, new and old loves. So this tune gets right in the middle, and makes some reaches musically. Bush’s powerful voice is featured for the second half of this song. "When we were writing the back half, Jen said ‘I want you to sing these words I wrote just for you,’" recalls Bush. "I will always feel special singing those words."

"Genevieve"
Nettles said that Bush had the whole first verse worked out. That verse--and his pure, sweet mandolin work--were inspiring enough. But when the idea for some three-part harmony came up, it only made this dirge of a country heartache even better. Nettles says it reminded her of some of the southern Baptist hymns she grew up on, and likes that the story’s not clear cut. "It’s a beautiful thing when we get to play characters that are complicated." There’s a mystery of who this character is that is coping with such a dramatic loss. It’s a little twisted. But that creates an even stronger pull into the lyrics.

"Already Gone"
A waltz-time lope? On a country album? Writing with Bobby Pinson ("Want To"), the duo was determined to do a song in six-eight. And to keep it very personal. "This is the story of coming of age, literally and emotionally," says Nettles. And it’s such a healing tale, about a woman who is growing up, leaving home, falling in love and saying goodbye.

"Keep You"
Is it possible to write an emotional song about being numb? It’s like writing a song about being loud by being quiet, Nettles and Bush think. That irony, blended with a bittersweet epiphany of knowing it’s time to walk away, make this one of the most contemporary done-me-wrong songs of our time. "Subtlety and nuance make all the difference in this song. Painting emotions with broad strokes is easy, but this time we’re using a toothbrush to dig through the finer emotions," says Nettles, comparing the duo to archeologists. And the vocal range she plays with throughout keep this song on the edgier side, because of the way she explodes into huge notes that few singers can even attempt.

"Take Me As I Am"
When the curtain opens, there’s a woman in a hotel room at night. As the song unravels, so does the mystery of why she’s there. In this character-driven narrative, with a Pat Benatar influence and some solid electric guitar work, the empowering message is clear. When you reach that point, when you are comfortable in your own skin, the line about "I’m not perfect, but I’m worth it" makes all the sense in the world. This could very well be the anthem of the unsung heroes who walk among us every day. "This is a very grown-up place to get to in your life," Nettles explains.

"What I’d Give"
Written with Kenny Chesney’s long-time lead guitarist Clayton Mitchell, this one builds a lingering story around some Faces era guitar and mandolin stylings. The kind that Sugarland thinks make for a story of their own. Usually in country, the song ends when the bow is tied off neatly with a lyric. But after the last lyric ends, they still had more to say musically. Nettles vocals are sultrier than they’ve ever been, and she likes the romantic implications of the lyrics. And both she and Bush agree that if you aren’t making out halfway into this six-minute yearning, then you aren’t ever going to be.

"Steve Earle"
If you know anything about Steve Earle, this song will thrill you with its comic pining for his songwriting. If you don’t know him, it’ll certainly pique your curiosity. Both Nettles and Bush share a fondness for Earle’s brand of country. It taught them that country was still viable, and gave them confidence to reimagine the sound. And when the duo found out what a shameless romantic Earle was, they had to set all his comings and goings to music. This upbeat barn burner fueled by a big pedal steel, is a playful way to process a painful subject. Nettles looks at it this way: "There comes a point in life of a troubadour when the character can become heroic. Even legendary."

"Very Last Country Song"
Aptly named, the last song on the album is a look at what would happen if nothing ever went wrong again. "If life stayed the way it was, if those conditions weren’t in our lives, then this would literally be the last country song," says Nettles. Everything is as it should be was the impetus and inspiration behind this song. Co-writer Tim Owens told the duo that someone had once asked him why country music was always so sad. Owens’ answer was that if bad things never happened, then what would we have to write about? The ethereal tones underneath this song stay quiet enough so the insight into the human condition can be felt. Like when you can hear Nettles smile as she sings the verse that looks back on the unexpected joy of an unexpected child.

Tedeschi Trucks Band - revelator [2011]

For the past 18 months, the husband/wife team of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have been working on a new collective vision. This creative period resulted in their new album, the appropriately titled Revelator, which you can now pre-order through Hittin' the Note!
Revelator is a truly collaborative effort in every way, an egoless journey made possible by teamwork and group effort. Mike Mattison and the brothers Burbridge, Oteil and Kofi, contribute to the songwriting, and the band worked with a wide variety of talented songwriters from outside their musical family.
From the evocative, moody "Midnight In Harlem" to the rip-roaring drive of "Bound for Glory" to the testifying funk of "Love Has Something Else to Say," the results speak for themselves. This is a great group of songs, played to perfection.
"These songs are all life-adventure stuff," says Tedeschi. "Revelator is about storytelling through songs - songs with nice musical structures, with beginnings, middles and ends, a lot of content that people can really dig into."
Of course, even the best songs can only take you so far without a great band. Revelator is the debut of the newly formed Tedeschi Trucks Band, an 11-member ensemble overflowing with talent and musical familiarity. This all-star band allows both Derek and Susan to really shine.
"I'm super-proud of the work that Susan's done on the record," Derek says about his wife and collaborator. "We really tried to catch different parts of her singing - not just the belting thing that she's known for, but the sweet side too. She's really laying it all out there."
Susan is equally proud in describing Derek's work on the record. "I have the best guitar player in the world in my band," Susan says with pride. "I love playing with my husband and now I get to hear him every night."

Eine weitere U.S.-Besprechung im Original:

Revelator is the long-awaited, song-oriented debut album by the husband-wife team of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks. Filled with smoky, blues-dipped rockers and heart-stilling ballads that show off, respectively, the gutsier and softer side of Tedeschi's vocal ability, plus a series of emotive, story-telling solos shaped by Trucks's uncanny agility on slide-guitar, Revelator also serves to introduce the couple s new, 11-piece ensemble Tedeschi Trucks Band.
A dramatic leap forward for two of the music world's most dynamic performers, Revelator is a confident yet unforced triumph offering a cohesive vision: an idyllic, musical world in which the echoes of so many great traditions Delta blues and Memphis soul, Sixties rock and Seventies funk organically flow together, blending with an entirely original, modern sensibility.
In addition to the combined weight of Tedeschi and Trucks's equally renowned abilities, Revelator benefits from an impressive circle of talent that the two brought together. Trucks co-produced the album with multi-Grammy-winning engineer Jim Scott, whose genre-bending credits include popular albums by the Dixie Chicks, Johnny Cash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Both Tedeschi and Trucks co-wrote the album's twelve new songs with an impressive list of experienced songwriters, including Jeff Trott, John Leventhal, David Ryan Harris and Sonya Kitchell; Gary Louris and Oliver Wood of the Jayhawks and the Wood Brothers, respectively; and old friends like guitarists Doyle Bramhall II and Eric Krasno (of Soulive), and band members Mike Mattison, Kofi Burbridge and Oteil Burbridge.
Most notably, Revelator features the newly formed Tedeschi Trucks Band, an eleven-member ensemble overflowing with talent and musical familiarity. Brothers Oteil Burbridge (noted for his years as bassist with the Allman Brothers Band) and Kofi Burbridge (longtime keyboardist/flutist with The Derek Trucks Band) have joined forces with a pair of drummers J. J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell, trumpeter Maurice Brown, tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Saunders Sermons, and harmony singers Mark Rivers and Mike Mattison. (Additionally, Ryan Shaw and David Ryan Harris supplied harmony vocals to various tracks on the album, and Alam Khan adds his masterful sarod playing to "These Walls".) The fact that this aggregation includes so many musicians related by experience and blood clearly adds to the notion of Revelator as a true group album, the product of a musical family.
